- 1. What is the difference between distilled water and Sylvan Source water?
-
Even with basic distillers utilizing venting, there are unacceptable amounts of volatile gases and liquids that can get carried forward with the steam. With all distillers, as water boils, the bubbles pop and droplets, which can carry a number of contaminants, are cast into the steam, which is carried forward into the water as it condenses. Batch distillers get scale build-up within the unit and need to be cleaned each time after they are used. Continuous flow distillers get scale build-up above the heating element, which can cause the heating element to fail.
The Sylvan Source degasser steam-strips chemicals while the demister separates droplets that may carry contaminants from the boiling chamber, so all that is carried over to be condensed is clean, healthy tasting water for cooking and drinking.
Sylvan Source's patent-pending, self-cleaning mechanism prevents scale build-up from occurring in the system.

- 4. What regulatory certifications has the product been tested and approved?
-
The Sylvan Source M-600 has been tested and certified by the following agencies.
NSF/ANSI Standard 62
The NSF/ANSI Standard 62 for distillation is the highest drinking water standard available today. While Sylvan Source technology goes beyond just simple distillation, there are currently no established standards for our breakthrough technology.
NSF International is a no-profit organization that applies rigorous testing to residential water treatment systems to verify the product meets the stated performance and reduction claims.
The M-600 has been tested and certified to meet the NSF/ANSI Standard 62 for TDS and various contaminant reduction claims.
Sylvan Source will work with established regulatory agencies to develop new standards more appropriate for our technology.
UL Safety Compliance
The M-600 has been tested and certified to comply with both US and Canadian safety standards.
IAPMO UPC Certification
The international Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAMPO) recognize products that comply with both product performance standards and the Universal Plumbing Code (UPC).
IAMPO has reviewed the M-600 and verified that it meet the required standards for both US and Canada.

- 6. What are the product costs: Initial, Installation and Aftermarket?
- Contact a Sylvan Source dealer for information on product pricing. Dealer information can be found at www.sylvansource.com/where-to-buy.html. Installation costs vary, depending on the area where you live. The M-600 system has no requirements for replacement filters, cartridges or membranes so that there are no additional costs once the unit is installed properly. Pre-treatment equipment is required to handle hard water and should be maintained per the manufacturer’s instructions.

- 10. Will the M-600 work with any type of water?
- The M-600 requires a potable water source. In addition, mineral deposits in water can cause scale build-up in pipes and damage water-using appliances if proper pre-treatment equipment is not used. In order to protect the Sylvan Source M-600, Sylvan Source requires use (and upkeep) of an inline water softener and a 25 micron sediment filter or whole house water softener for hard water concentrations that equal or exceed 1ppm (0.058 grains) hardness as calcium carbonate (CaCO3), to prevent sand, silt and debris from clogging the equipment. Additional information on recommended pre-treatment equipment can be found in the Sylvan Source Quick Start Guide, www.sylvansource.com/documentation.html.
